| Little Lake Theater |
Students enjoyed a play performed by the Little Lake Theater called My Lunch Table. The play’s theme was that we all have strengths and weaknesses and can learn from each other and that working together can bring amazing results. Thank you to the PTA for inviting this talented group of actors to Paynter. For more information log onto www.littlelake.org.

| Worms |
| Singleton’s Second Grade Scientists created compost bags as part of their ASSET science unit Soils. The students observed how worms affected the compost by comparing a bag with worms to a bag without worms. Their conclusion was that the rate of decomposition was greater with worms. |

| Microscopes |
| Not many people can distinguish a blespharisma (a rosy snail) from a volvox (a type of freshwater green algae). Paynter’s 5th grade students can! Using microscopes as part of the ASSET Science unit Microworlds, Ms. Reinhart’s class viewed these and vinegar eels (a harmless round worm that favors living in acidic environments, like non-pasteurized vinegar). |

| Kindergarten Registration |
| March 13th was Kindergarten Registration at Paynter Elementary. Parents were able to meet with the principals, social worker, nurse and secretary to have any questions answered and to submit registration information. The Kindergarteners-to-be were given a series of readiness evaluations by Kindergarten teachers and support staff. Students and families will be invited back to Paynter in May for an orientation program. |

| Bricks |
| Mrs. Singleton’s second grade enjoyed a visit from their student teacher’s father. Ms. Weidl’s father works for a brick making company. To accompany the ASSET science unit on Soils, Mr. Weidl brought samples of the materials used to make bricks and each child was able to scratch their name on a raw brick. Mr. Weidl will make sure the bricks are fired at his work and will send the hardened bricks back to Paynter. |

| Dr. Seuss Day |
| The Cat was not in the Hat, he was at Paynter Elementary School! Throughout the day, each class came to the auditorium to participate in game stations, organized by Reading teacher Ms. Graff. As the students completed each Dr. Seuss themed activity, their card was punched and when they were finished, they could choose a prize from the prize table. Thank you to the Baldwin High School Key Club members and parent volunteers who helped to keep the event running smoothly. |

| Green Eggs and Ham |
| Sam-I-Am doesn’t like green eggs and ham, but Paynter students sure do! As part of the Dr. Seuss/ Read Across America celebration, some 2nd and 3rd grade classes enjoyed a green eggs and ham snack, complete with toast, milk and juice. Thank you to the moms, dads, and grandparents who volunteered their time to help prepare, serve and clean up. |

| Bio Book Report |
| Characters came alive in Mrs. Leslie’s 4th grade class as the students presented their oral Biography Book Reports. Following research, the class dressed up as their main characters and learned new facts about famous people like Amelia Earhart, Florence Nightingale, Clara Barton, John F. Kennedy, Roberto Clemente, and Elvis Presley to name a few. |
