Accelerated Reader

Remember, if your child brings a book home from our school library that has a bright pink sticker on the spine, he or she can take a short 5 or 10 question multiple choice quiz on the book’s content. It only takes a couple of minutes and can earn the student points.

Responsibility Winners
 

The first monthly character education theme of this school year was Responsibility. Vice principal, Mrs. Fusco, read a responsibility story to classes. Teachers discussed in their classroom what it means to be responsible and then they submitted names of some students who’ve shown that attribute. Next month’s character trait will be Honesty.

Band Festival

CONGRATULATIONS! THESE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR DISTRICT BAND!

This year’s Elementary Band Festival, Allegheny West region, will be held at Thomas Jefferson High School on April 4th and 5th, 2008.  This Band Festival is made up of select musicians in elementary grades (5-6) representing numerous school districts in Allegheny County. The following students have been selected as candidates for participation in this event. The students will be required to attend an all day rehearsal (from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) on Friday, April 4th.  They will also be expected to attend all of the events on Saturday April 5th, 2008. This will include, a rehearsal starting at 9:00 a.m., the banquet around 12:00 noon, and the concert at 2:00 p.m. Congratulations to:

Music Students of the Month
 

Jessica Miele and Victoria Dedig, two Paynter 5th grade students, were recognized by their music teachers for their dedication to music, outstanding attitudes, and their efforts in the elementary program.  They are exceptional players.  They are the Progressive Music Student of the Month for October. Jessica plays the violin and Victoria plays the clarinet. Each will each receive a $10 gift certificate to Progressive Music Store. Congratulations!

Poster Contest
   

Jelena Winowich traveled to the state capital in Harrisburg, PA on October 17, 2007 to receive special recognition for her entry in the Alcohol Awareness Poster Program. More than 1500 posters from all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were submitted for this year’s contest and Jelena’s poster was chosen as the overall Kindergarten grade winner. A ceremony honoring the students was held at the state capital in the Capitol Rotunda. Jelena’s poster will also be on display in the Capitol Building for one week. Congratulations Jelena!
