Every September, students
are involved in many activities to
help learn about Johnny Appleseed

Reader |

The Accelerated Reader
program runs during the entire school
year. Students earn points and rewards
for their reading efforts. At the
end of the year, top point earners
from each grade level get their names
engraved on a plaque located in Paynter’s
lobby.

| Butterfly
Release |

Second grade students
read goodbye letters to the Painted
Lady butterflies they have raised
from caterpillars as a cumulative
activity to an ASSET science unit.

This PTA sponsored
activity has dads, uncles and grandfathers
serving muffins to moms, aunts and
grandmas in Paynter’s cafeteria
on a morning in May. |

Mediation |

Students are awarded
certificates upon completing the Peer
Mediation program run by social worker,
Mrs. Reita Melvin, and many volunteering
teachers. |

Held on an evening
in early spring, Family Bingo Night
has become a very popular community

dads, uncles and granddads enjoy starting
off the day with their special Paynter
student. |

| Science
Fair |
 |
|
Each spring the PTA
sponsors a science fair. Students
demonstrate experiments they have
researched using the scientific method.
Students are judged independently
and participation awards are given.

|
| Reflections |
 |
|
The PTA sponsored annual Reflections contest encourages children to display their thoughts on a pre-chosen topic in various categories including Literature, Music, Visual Arts, and Photography. Last year’s topic was “My favorite place”. This year’s topic is “I can make a difference.” Students whose projects win at school level then move on to district, state and national levels. |
